In the morning you can discover the Accademia Gallery and the art of Michelangelo with his most renowned work, the “David”, a powerful sculpture of absolute beauty, and other important works of art, icons of the renaissance model: “I Prigioni”, “San Matteo” and the “Palestrina Pietà”.
In the afternoon in the heart of the historic centre, your guide will show you the splendid gothic Loggia del Bigallo overlooking Piazza Duomo. From here begins your discovery of the amazing complex of monuments of the centre of Florence: the Cathedral with its unique Brunelleschi dome, the Baptistery of San Giovanni with the great Porta del Paradiso (Gates of Paradise). There you can admire the elegant Giotto bell tower, the loveliest in the world. The walk continues along lively Via Calzaioli in the heart of the city, through Orsanmichele Church, a masterpiece of the gothic art, decorated with shrines with statues of the patron saints of the powerful medieval trade guilds.
Once arrived at the Mercato della Paglia (Straw Market) and having rubbed the nose of the famous porcellino (pig) and toss a coin into the fountain to bring you good luck, you can admire the romantic, picturesque Ponte Vecchio, with its renowned jewellery shops.
In Piazza Signoria, considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world and an “outdoor museum”, you’ll admire the beautiful Fountain of Neptune with the marvellous and imposing marble statue by Ammannati. After that in the Loggia dei Lanzi, you can see the Cellini’s Perseus and the Gianbologna’s Rape of the Sabines.
All this beauty is dominated by the majestic Palazzo Vecchio that you will be able to admire in all its magnificence with its crenellated Arnolfo tower, one of the symbols of Florence.
